The Polly Woodside Volunteers' Association (PWVA) is an incorporated body set up in the 1970s to represent the volunteers who maintain the world-famous iron barque Polly Woodside, the Duke and Orr's dry-dock, the pump-house and the maritime museum site on the Yarra River in Melbourne.

MARITIME RESEARCH SERVICE

Since the closure of the Melbourne Maritime Museum we have moved our library to the National Trust HQ and have continued to offer a maritime research service.

We have an extensive library, including 200 years of Lloyds' Registers, around 40,000 photographs of ships from the mid-19th Century to the present day, and searchable databases of all passenger shipping arrivals to Australia & NZ, from the 1st Fleet onwards. We undertake research on behalf of the public, including family historians who are seeking information and photos of ships, their voyages and the history of the Port of Melbourne.

Research costs - $20 for up to two queries, extra queries $10 each. Ship photos $10 each (postcard size) or as emailed JPG's.

No New Museum at POLLY WOODSIDE Site

On March 25th 2008, the PWVA committee and ship volunteers were given the staggering news by the National Trust C.E.O. that building of the new Melbourne Maritime Museum is not going to proceed.
